Kaizen Teian Continuous Ongoing Improvement

W. Edward Deming 1900-1993) championed
the refinement of the Walter Andrew Shewhart (1891-1967) Shewhart quality control cycle
PDSA Plan-Do-Study-Act. Originally,
Sir Francis Bacon (1561-1626) natural philosophy
of the scientific method influenced Shewhart.

Post World War Two, American statistician
W. Edward Deming taught systemic quality productive processes to Japanese manufacturing industrialists. Improving quality at every stage
of production would achieve statistical quality improvement producing a constantly improving product. Deming’s PDCA Plan-Do-Check-Act
stops production when deviation occurs, identifies
and resolves issues before continuing production.
In the broadest sense “Total quality management” contributed to Production System (TPS)
and just-in time (JIT) manufacturing.
Leading to “just in sequence”
delivery resulting in savings
in inventory, storage and floor space costs.
